Lingcod from the 20-60 lb range are targeted in 30-150 feet of water. We use 10 inch grubs and 12 oz leadhead jigs. Several species of rockfish are in the same habitat as lingcod, which includes black, quillback, yellow eye, tiger rockfish, and as you go deeper, dusky rockfish. Lingcod and rockfish have white, firm, delicate, and flakey meat. They are mild and a favorite for fish tacos.
Current regulations for rockfish are 5 a day including 1 yelloweye rockfish, and 2 lingcod may be retained per day. Lingcod season opens July 1 to December 31.
